Meneja Huduma za Jamii Airtel, Hawa Bayumi akiongea na waandishi wa Habari (hawapo pichani) jinsi Airtel inavyoendelea kusaidia kutoa elimu ya afya kwa wanawake wajawazito na wenye watoto nchini Tanzania, kwa kupitia namba maalumu inayowawezesha watoa huduma za afya kuwasajili kina mama wajawazito na wenye watoto kwenye huduma inyowapatia taarifa mbalimbali za afya ijulikanayo kama “Wazazi Nipende” inayotolewa na Airtel wakishirikiana na mHealth Tanzania na washirika wengine chini ya usimamizi wa Wizara ya Afya.

Zaidi ya wateja wa Airtel 350,000 wanufaika na mpango wa Wazazi Nipendeni
Airtel Tanzania yajivunia kufikia ujumbe mfupi (sms) upatao 20,0000 bila gharama yoyote kwa wateja zaidi ya 350,000 kwa ushirikiano na mHealth  Tanzania kupitia huduma yao ya Wazazi Nipendeni (Afya ya uzazi na mtoto) tangu kuzinduliwa 2012. Wateja wa Airtel waliojiunga na huduma hii wamekuwa wakipokea ujumbe mfupi wa bure wenye taarifa muhimu za afya na kupata ushauri kwa wamama wajawazito na wenye watoto wadogo Tanzania nzima.
Kubainisha hayo Mama lishe Aneth Pius (30) kutoka Dar es Salaam alisema, “ninamimba ya miezi 7 na nimekuwa napata ujumbe mfupi wa tarehe za kutembelea zahanati na umuhimu wa kufanya maadalizi mapema kabla ya kujifungua na pia athari za kutojiandaa unapokaribia kujifungua. Naishukuru sana Airtel na mHealth kwa huduma hii inayonisaidia katika kipindi hiki cha ujauzito”.
Miongoni mwa wateja 350,000 wa Airtel waliojiunga na huduma hii, 31% ni wanawake wajawazito, 18% ni wazazi wenye watoto wachanga, 17% ni wasaidizi wa afya na 34% ni wateja waliojiunga kupata taarifa mbalimbali za afya.
Akizungumzia hilo, Meneja huduma za Jamii Airtel, Hawa Bayumi   alisema, “Airtel inajivunia kuwa kampuni ya simu ya kwanza kushirikiana na Wizara ya afya, maendeleo ya jamii, jinsia, wazee na watoto katika mpango wa Wazazi Nipendeni (Afya uzazi na mtoto) uliozinduliwa 2012. Kutokana na kuenea kwa mtandao wetu nchi nzima na wateja zaidi ya million 11 tulitambua umuhimu wetu katika kuwezesha upatikanaji wa taarifa za afya kwa jamii”.
Bayumi aliongezea akisema tunatamani kuona watu zaidi wakinufaika na huduma hii kupitia mtandao wetu na tunaendelea kuhakikisha tunatoa huduma hii bure kabisa kwa wateja wetu nchi nzima.
Huduma hii inasimamiwa na mHealth Tanzania ikishirikiana na washirika mbalimbali duniani. Njia ya kutoa taarifa za afya kwa ujumbe mfupi (SMS) imetambuliwa kuwa moja ya huduma bora nne za kutoa taarifa za afya duniani kwa mwaka 2014 na GSMA , Global Mobile Awards Committee, na moja kati ya huduma 6 zitokanazo na ubunifu wa kimtandao kwa 2016 na GSMA , Global Mobile Awards Committee.

Airtel and MHealth continue supporting women in Tanzania
·        More than 350,000 Airtel customers reached through Wazazi Nipendeni Campaign.
Airtel Tanzania proudly marks 20 million zero-rated sms reaching out to over 350,000 subscribers through its partnership with M-Health Tanzania in the Wazazi Nipendeni (Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby).Since its launch in 2012, Airtel subscribers received the zero-rated messages with content on safe antenatal, motherhood and infant healthcare information to pregnant women, mothers, supporters (both male and female) and general information seekers across Tanzania.
Aneth Pius, a 30 year old caterer (‘mama lishe’) in Dar es Salaam is testimony to the impact the free text messaging service has brought to many Tanzanians over the years that it has been in existence.  The 7 months pregnant Aneth is thankful for the free and frequent messages she receives on her phone. “I’m enjoying the text messages from the Wazazi Nipendeni, I routinely get reminded on Ante-natal visits, Iron folic tablets and anti-malaria medicines. The information I get is very useful as this is my first pregnancy”, she says. Today she received a messages about why it is important to prepare and deliver her baby at the health facility. “It explained to me that if there is a complication then I get immediate help. So, I am glad I received that information.”
Among the total 350,000 Airtel registrants are 31% pregnant women, 18% Mothers with newborns, 17% Supporters and 34% General information Seekers.
Commenting on this, Airtel Tanzania Corporate Social Responsibility manager Hawa Bayumi, said “Airtel is honored to have been the first Mobile Operator to support this Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC) in the Wazazi Nipendeni (Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby) SMS Service in 2012. With our country wide network and over 11 million customers we recognize the potential we carry to serve and ensure timely delivery of critical, lifesaving information to our communities.” Bayumi further added that the organization is pleased to see many people benefiting from the service through their network and that the mobile network operator remains committed to delivering the service free of charge.
The service is managed by the mHealth Tanzania Partnership program and works with many different implementing partners nationwide. The SMS Service was recognized as one of the 4 best Mobile Health Services globally in 2014 by the prestigious GSMA lead Global Mobile Awards Committee and as one of the 6 best Best Mobile Innovations for Emerging Markets in 2016 by the prestigious GSMA lead Global Mobile Awards Committee.
